Meet Community Maker Mona Dehghan: A DJ Spinning Magic at Casa Duende

An Unforgettable Birthday Bash at Casa Duende

When Mona took the stage at Casa Duende for Mitch and Megan’s birthday party, she transformed the venue into a dynamic celebration of sound. With its stylish yet relaxed ambiance, Casa Duende felt like the perfect “high-end house party” to Mona.

“What a joy to play on those lovely machines and hear great tunes through those perfectly attuned speakers!” she said, highlighting the venue’s incredible sound system. For a DJ who values the energy of a room, having state-of-the-art equipment makes all the difference.

Guests fill the third floor of Casa Duende, dancing and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing waterfall feature.

The event itself was a testament to the versatility of Casa Duende. Mona’s ability to read the room and adapt her setlist ensured a night filled with laughter, dancing, and memorable moments. Guests were treated to an eclectic mix of tracks that reflected Mona’s deep knowledge and passion for music.

DJ Insights: Tapping into Energy and Atmosphere

For Mona, the best part of DJing is when she can “zone into the energy of the room and intuitively know exactly what they want to hear next to send them into further abandon on the dancefloor.” She admits that it’s not always an exact science. “Sometimes tapping into people’s taste and moods can be tricky, and I can sometimes miss, but I usually find my way into their psyche eventually.”

Her passion for exploring genres and creating unique musical journeys is evident in her weekly radio show on WFMU, where she has the freedom to let her creativity soar. “It already feels like a dream, but I think to have a super open-minded party where I could meld genres and eras and go quite obscure interspersed with mainstream would be fun,” she explained.

Mona’s ability to blend obscure tracks with mainstream hits speaks to her versatility as a DJ. This talent was on full display at Casa Duende, where she curated a setlist that appealed to a diverse crowd, ensuring everyone left with a smile.

A Celebration of Community and Creativity

Being part of the Cocoon community means more than just hosting events. It’s about celebrating creativity and collaboration. Mona shared her appreciation for the opportunity to be featured, saying, “Thank you for asking me to participate, I’m grateful to be a part of the gorgeous community you’re cultivating.”

This sentiment is echoed by many who have hosted events at Cocoon venues. The combination of unique spaces, professional services, and a commitment to fostering meaningful connections makes Cocoon a standout choice in NYC.
