Early this summer, a high-touch brand activation event for a major global company unfolded inside a stately Upper East Side mansion sourced through Cocoon’s Discovery Portfolio, a curated venues collection featuring visually striking venues that extend beyond our Core Casas. The experience blended storytelling, culinary artistry, and immersive design. At the center of it all was Nicole Yuan, an experiential producer known for turning concepts into unforgettable moments.

Nicole and her team found a venue that aligned perfectly with their vision. They needed a refined and soulful environment that could be transformed into a nostalgic Italian nonna’s home. Over two days, guests were welcomed into a multi-sensory dining experience led by a celebrity chef. The atmosphere was rich, emotional, and theatrical, with details like a live opera performance adding depth to the story they set out to tell.

She graduated from Boston University in 2020 with a degree in Marketing and Advertising, along with a minor in Business Management. Since then, she has worked across large-scale activations, immersive brand experiences, and high-impact cultural events.

From LA to NYC: A Three-Month Hiatus That Changed Everything

Nicole was born and raised in Los Angeles, but after a shift in her personal life, she decided to hit pause. She sublet an apartment in New York and gave herself three months to regroup. It was meant to be temporary.

Curious about what might happen, she started applying to experiential agencies. Within two months, she had landed a job. The plan changed quickly. She found herself searching for a permanent place to live and committing to a new pace, a new rhythm, and a new city.

New York became home faster than she expected. The two-day dinner experience at at the Upper East Side venue was one of her first major projects in the city, and it set the tone for the kind of producer she was becoming, grounded, fast-moving, and creatively driven.

A Dining Experience That Told a Story in the Upper East Side Venue

For her first large-scale project in New York, Nicole led the production of a two-day immersive dinner experience for a major global brand. The event took place at an Upper East Side mansion event venue sourced through Cocoon’s Discovery Portfolio. The creative direction was clear from the start. The goal was to transform the property into a lived-in, emotionally resonant version of an Italian nonna’s home.

Guests entered through a quiet courtyard centered around a circular fountain filled with herbs and seasonal greenery. This space became a central hub throughout the night. People gathered with drinks in hand, exchanged conversation, and watched as chefs carved large wheels of Parmigiano and prepared fresh pasta just a few feet away.

A celebrity chef led a live cooking demonstration. Fresh ingredients were folded and shaped in front of the guests, creating a sensory experience that felt both personal and refined. Servers moved gracefully through the courtyard, offering antipasti, pouring drinks, and helping guide the rhythm of the evening.

As dusk set in, the performance element began. From a second-story terrace above the courtyard, two opera singers, a man and a woman, began to sing. Their voices filled the space as a pianist accompanied them from inside. Guests stood near the fountain, looking up, quietly taking in the music and atmosphere. It was emotional, theatrical, and unforgettable.

Inside the mansion, long banquet tables were set with white linens, candlelight, and gold-rimmed glassware. The dining room felt elegant and grounded. As the courses rolled out, the flow between rooms felt seamless. The energy never dropped.

Like any live event, the night came with its surprises. During dinner service, a fire alarm suddenly went off. Nicole, Danica the Casa Manager, and the venue team responded immediately. They located a ladder, addressed the issue, and stayed calm throughout. “We went into full Spiderman mode,” Nicole joked afterward. The guests continued dining, unaware that anything had happened. The story never lost its rhythm.

Where Vision Meets Grit: What Sets Nicole Apart

At the Discovery Portfolio venue, Nicole didn’t just bring a vision to life. She moved through the production with focus and calm, balancing creative decisions with logistical problem-solving. From coordinating vendors to adjusting flow on the day of the event, she handled each moment with clarity and care.

That steady presence comes from a wide range of experience. Before moving to New York, Nicole had produced events across some of the most high-pressure cultural settings. At Coachella, she worked within the fast pace of a large-scale festival, where every activation had to be precise and responsive. At Art Basel, she operated at the intersection of brand and art, where creative direction and execution needed to align perfectly. And in Austin, she led a private ranch dinner that pushed her to the edge. That project, she recalls, left her teary eyed once it ended. She was proud, relieved, and completely exhausted.

Each event brought a different kind of lesson. Nicole entered this past project with a strong sense of how to lead in complex environments, how to listen to creative vision, and how to keep a team connected from start to finish.

She brings that rhythm to every production. Nicole keeps people aligned, stays focused under pressure, and creates experiences that are cohesive from the first idea to the final moment. Her leadership is rooted in care, consistency, and a deep understanding of how things actually get built.

The Best and Hardest Part of the Job

For Nicole, the most rewarding part of producing events is the sense of camaraderie that forms on site. Each project creates a temporary crew, a group of people brought together to solve problems, move fast, and deliver something meaningful under pressure. That connection happens quickly, often in chaotic conditions, and sometimes through shared exhaustion.

“Events will bond people in a way that no other situation can. It’s amazing to see how many different teams bring something to life under such intense circumstances.”

That same intensity is also what makes the job difficult. Long days, constant problem-solving, and physical labor are part of the process. Nicole has learned to move through all of it with a steady hand, but she’s quick to acknowledge the toll. Being onsite requires endurance, flexibility, and a deep sense of focus. It’s not for everyone, but for Nicole, that’s exactly what makes it meaningful.

Behind the Scenes: Cocoon’s Discovery Portfolio and On-Site Support

When Nicole began planning the event, she had a clear idea of the space she needed. It had to feel elegant but grounded, cinematic but intimate. Rather than searching listings, she shared her vision with Cocoon. The team introduced her to a venue from the Discovery Portfolio. Cocoon’s collection of exclusive spaces tailored to creative and brand-driven experiences.

These venues aren’t featured on the public site. They’re scouted based on the unique needs of each project, whether it’s a dinner, brand activation, or multi-day production. Nicole sent over her requirements, aesthetic references, and a general run of show. The match was immediate.

“They nailed the venue,” she said.

But what stood out even more was the day-to-day support.

“Hands down, the level of communication. They were so on top of responses and tracked all of 100 questions we asked per day,” Nicole said. “With so many moving parts, we felt fully supported by the Cocoon team going into the event.”

Onsite with Danica: Cocoon’s Casa Manager Extraordinaire

Behind every seamless event is someone making sure every detail clicks into place. For this two-day production, that someone was Danica, Cocoon’s dedicated Casa Manager.

A seasoned event producer in her own right, Danica brought her signature calm, precision, and technical expertise to every moment of the booking. From coordinating complex vendor schedules to troubleshooting in real-time, she was a steady presence onsite — keeping the space aligned with Nicole’s creative vision.

Danica has supported some of Cocoon’s most ambitious bookings, including brand activations, holiday parties, and runway shows. For this dinner experience, her support helped the event flow effortlessly from one scene to the next. It’s professionals like her that make high-pressure productions feel smooth, even when surprises arise.

From pre-production to final wrap, Cocoon stayed close to the process. The SuperConcierge team helped manage logistics, coordinate vendor access, and keep details aligned as the event approached. On the day of the event, Danica served as the Casa Manager, working alongside Nicole to make sure everything stayed on track.

Plan a Space as Specific as Your Vision

Every event has its own rhythm, its own feeling, and its own creative direction. Whether you’re planning a brand activation, an immersive dinner, or something entirely new, the right space is more than a location. It shapes how people experience the moment.

Cocoon offers two ways to find that space. You can explore our core portfolio of distinctive venues across New York City, including sunlit lofts, rooftop townhouses, and flexible live-work spaces. Or you can work with our team through the Discovery Portfolio to access venues like the one featured in this event. These properties may not appear in our Core Casa listings, but they are sourced specifically to match your concept, schedule, and production needs.

If Nicole Yuan’s approach to storytelling through space inspires you, you can follow her work on Instagram. And if you’re ready to shape an experience that feels just as intentional, book a call with our team. Let your next event reflect the story you want to tell.
