If you’ve ever tried to find a proper SoHo loft in New York, you’ll know how this goes. Plenty of venues call themselves lofts, but the ones with actual cast-iron columns, arched windows and a building history that goes back over a century are a much shorter list. Casa Luz is on that list.
It’s a 3,500 sq ft open-concept loft at 45 Howard Street, housed in a historic 1910 building, with 15 ft ceilings, original architectural columns, and up to two rentable foors totaling 7,000 sq/ft. The interiors were designed by Marcelle Frey and Lorena Pinzon, and the space sits in Cocoon’s collection of unconventional venues across Manhattan and Brooklyn.
We’re going to walk through the two main floors, starting with the furnished loft and then heading up to the raw open-plan space above it.

Arriving at Casa Luz
Casa Luz sits on Howard Street between Broadway and Crosby in SoHo, roughly 500 ft from the Canal Street station (J, N, Q, R, W, 6 lines), and a short walk from the A, C, E at Canal. The building itself is a classic SoHo cast-iron facade: ornate Corinthian columns framing arched windows across the upper floors, with a green panelled entrance at street level. It reads as unmistakably downtown Manhattan.
Access is at street level (the space is ADA-compliant), with a passenger elevator and a freight elevator inside the building. The freight elevator is the one you’ll use for heavy load-ins and equipment, and it opens directly into the loft. For productions, that’s a meaningful convenience: your crew can bring gear straight from the street into the space without navigating corridors or narrow staircases.

The Raw Loft
Head up to the second floor and you’ll find a light-filled space with the flexibility to become almost anything. A pair of heavy wooden double doors (with original brass hardware) swing open into a wide-open loft with cast-iron columns running down the centre, arched windows on two sides, and light hardwood flooring. The ceiling height reaches 15 ft.
This floor is a blank canvas. The entire space is empty and open, with the columns and windows doing all the visual work. The cast-iron columns are painted black with Corinthian-style capitals, and they give the room a strong vertical rhythm that photographs well from almost any angle. Edison-style pendant bulbs hang from the ceiling at intervals, which adds a warm tone to evening shoots or events.
If you’re planning a brand activation, a gallery installation, a seated dinner for up to 100 guests, or a product launch that needs room to build a set, this is the floor to work with. We’d also put it high on the list for commercial productions and editorial shoots where the architecture itself is part of the backdrop.

The Furnished Loft
Take the elevator up one floor and you arrive on the main furnished floor. The layout is open-plan, with hardwood floors running throughout, white-painted brick walls, and those signature arched windows lining the front of the building. Light comes in from multiple directions, and on a clear day the space is flooded with natural light without needing to supplement with much artificial setup.
The dining area anchors one side of the floor, with a large wooden table that seats eight to ten, a vintage banker’s lamp, and views over Howard Street through the arched windows. Plants are everywhere, including a fiddle-leaf fig and several palms, which adds a lived-in quality to the room. The living zone on the opposite side of the floor features a camel-toned sofa and a green cushioned armchair arranged around a low table, with more plants tucked into the window bays.
Towards the rear of the floor, a more open zone functions as a flexible gallery or staging area. There’s a travertine bar counter, a folding room divider screen, and a globe floor lamp. This section is more pared-back and can be configured to suit whatever you need, whether that’s a fashion showroom setup, a registration area for a private event, or a breakout space during a team offsite.

Two Rentable Floors
One of the best things about Casa Luz is that it scales to whatever you’re planning. With up to two rentable floors, you can size the booking to match your hire exactly. Take the furnished loft on its own for a smaller production or meeting, or add the raw loft above it for a full-scale event or activation with distinct zones for staging, talent, and hospitality.
The building’s freight elevator connects the floors directly, so moving between them during the day is effortless, and for events that span both floors, your guests can glide up and down on the passenger elevator.
And to make setup even easier, we’ve put together a list of furniture available to rent right within the building for this property, so you can source your setup essentials on-site and build the space out exactly the way you want it.

Practical Details
Casa Luz comes equipped with high-speed WiFi, a professional sound system, central AC and heating, and a stage. The space is listed at 100-person capacity for events. Hours run from 6am to midnight (Monday to Sunday), with flexibility for late productions on request.
The venue sits outside the Hot Zone — a designation that’s worth understanding, since it often trips up event producers even though it works in your favor here. The Hot Zone refers to high-demand areas of the city where large event or film productions can pull permits to reserve parking directly in front of a building for their production vehicles. Because this venue falls outside that zone, securing those spots is more straightforward, and free and metered street parking is available nearby.
Casa Luz has a selection of rentable furniture available on-site, so you can source many of your setup essentials directly through the building. For anything beyond that — or for larger event setups — you’ll want to coordinate rentals through the team or through SuperConcierge, which can handle tables, chairs, catering, florals, equipment, and more.
