About Casa Joy
Step into Casa Joy, a 19th-century brownstone where whimsy meets grandeur. Nestled in the heart of Manhattan’s Murray Hill, this 5,600 sq. ft. townhouse is a masterpiece of historic charm and creative energy, a venue unlike any other for intimate events, elegant productions, or inspiring brand activations. Built in 1850 and renovated in 1900, Casa Joy reflects a rich architectural evolution, with original wood paneling, classical moldings, and an exquisite Art Nouveau staircase added during its transformation. Once home to a member of Herman Melville’s family and later a candy magnate, it carries the legacy of New York’s golden age, now infused with the artistic vision of its current owner. Every corner tells a story—from the ballet-slipper pink walls to the custom Mexican pool tile mosaics in the bathroom.
Beyond its classic brownstone façade, this five-story townhouse is an architectural playground of ornate details and grand proportions. Step through iron balconettes and French doors onto the stoop of a bygone era, or ascend the curved wood staircase with iron balustrade, a statement piece in its own right. The Murano-glass chandelier illuminates the vaulted ceilings, while the giant marble basin and fountain from India add an exotic touch.

Artwork
All artwork displayed on the premises is fully cleared for use in photo and video frames, production shots and any media captured during your rental period. Our goal is always to help you accomplish your vision and that includes allowing you to move specific items around for the perfect shot or to accommodate your guests the way you want for your meeting, event, or showroom. Please note all art moving must be approved by our team, and many pieces can only be moved by professional art handlers (which we can coordinate). Some pieces may not be moveable. If your shoot requires consideration for the artwork (clearance or removal), we kindly request that you verify with our team in advance.

General
What is included in my quote?
Your custom quote will include the space rental based on your rental activity and number of guests, as well as a standard cleaning fee and a Casa Manager fee. We will send you the quote prior to booking the space.
What's the venue address?
We will provide the location of the space once a space visit has been organized or the booking has been confirmed. Otherwise, we can provide the cross streets for reference.
How do you calculate your pricing?
Our pricing is tiered based on two main factors: your guest count and the type of booking (production, meeting, event, or showroom). As the number of guests go up, the hourly rate will slightly increase. The starting rates may also vary based on the type of booking. All variations in pricing is to dark ensure that all risks and management are covered in proportion to the complexity and size of your booking. We will always disclose all fees associated for you to review prior to confirming a booking with you.
Do I need a certificate of insurance?
Yes – we require a COI for all productions, offsite meetings, and events. For Private Events, our Booking Team can assist you in obtaining a cost-effective COI for your event. We have worked extensively with a couple of online platforms that offer reliable and reasonably-priced Certificates of Insurance. As the person renting a space, you will have a series of legal responsibilities by default such as preventing any personal injury or property damage liabilities. Having a COI can help you protect yourself against potential liabilities as a space renter.
About the Space
Is the space ADA accessible?
Casa Joy features an elevator in sight, but unfortunetely, Casa Joy is not fully ADA accessible. Please inquire with our team and we can direct you to other venues fully ADA accessible.
Do you provide catering or additional rentals and services?
Yes, we can coordinate full catering for your booking. Our Concierge team can also help you coordinate additional rentals or activities for your event or offsite, or coffee and snacks for the crew. We work with a hyper-diverse pool of local vendors, for varying budgets. It’s part of our mission.
Can the furniture and art be moved?
Moving furniture, decor and artwork is permitted only in the presence of the Casa Manager, and previously approved by the Operations Team, as some items may be delicate and at risk of damage. Additionally, certain high-profile art pieces may require specialized Art Handlers for safe moving and storage. If you’re planning to move any artwork or to move significant layout changes, please notify our Operations Team to ensure proper planning.
Can I schedule a space visit?
Yes – we will be more than happy to show you the space before you confirm your reservation. Make sure to discuss days and times that work for you with your Booking Manager, and they will make sure to arrange a site visit with someone from the team.
Does Casa Joy have a skylight?
Yes, Casa Joy features a skylight, allowing plenty of natural light into the space.
Can I use the fireplace?
While we do not allow usage of the fireplace for any Events, Meetings, or Showrooms due to risk of injury, for specific Media Productions, we may grant permission of usage of the fireplace upon reviewing your shot list and team that will be handling the operation. Usage of the fireplace may only be permitted under Casa Manager supervision.
Is there a piano available at the space?
Yes, there is a piano available. Please notify ys in advance if you plan to use it, so we can make necessary arrangements.
Does the BBQ grill work?
Yes – the BBQ grill works and can be used by you, your caterer, or your chef under supervision by your Casa Manager.
Does Casa Joy have any gardens?
Yes, Casa Joy has an English garden and a rose garden, offering beautiful outdoor spaces to enjoy
Do you have an inventory of the kitchenware?
Yes – we have a full list of the available kitchenware and appliances, as well as some photos that we can share. Please ask your Booking Manager for more information.
Is there an elevator?
Yes, Casa Joy includes a functional elevator that measures 3′ x 4′ (height = 80″).
Is there a laundry room?
Yes – Casa Joy features a Laundry Room. Please notify us in advance if you plan to use it, so we can make necessary arrangements.
Can Casa Joy store all my production equipment during booking hours?
Yes, Casa Joy offers ample space for all your production equipment. Our Casa Managers are available to assist you in setting up everything in the most convenient and organized way.
What are the guidelines for loading in and staging at Casa Joy?
To minimize disruption to neighbors, we request that when staging, items should be kept in the truck or can be staged on the space’s sidewalk portion, ensuring pedestrian walkways and access to neighboring properties are not obstructed.
Will I have access to the outdoor space?
Yes – you will have access to the entire space. All areas are private and only accessible to you and your guests.
Can I use the kitchen for prepping and cooking?
Yes – please make sure to let your Booking Manager know in advance if you will need the kitchen so that they can ensure everything is ready for you upon check-in.
Can I use the pots and pans?
Please communicate with your Booking Manager about usage of any utensils and dishware – as they may be off-limits per the property owner. Our Team can coordinate simple and inexpensive rentals for you if what you need is not available on-site.
